OBG

For a long time it was quiet here in Amsterdam Southeast when it comes to graff. Of course the SMD is always doing their thing, but since one and a half year there is this new and upcoming crew called OBG. I thought it stood for Original Bijlmer Gangstas, because the Bijlmer is the original name for the Southeast area.

No, when the crew emerged OBG stood for Original Baby Gangstas: they were young and their actions were ruthless: tags everywhere and a lot of primitive pieces. About a year later the name was changed into OpenBaar Geweld (=public violence).

Changing their name showed the crew matured in the relatively short time they're bombing. Never influenced by the established graff-media or older, better writers with all the advanced styles of the late nineties, the OBG just did their own thing. They started out bombing

the buildings in their part of the Bijlmer: rooftops on the 11th floor of the d, e and f- buildings, boardings and most subway stations. On their own they found their ways to the subway yards and the subway tunnels where their pieces still appear on a regular basis.

The more they bomb and do what they feel like doing, the more their style is developing. Close encounters with the strong arm of justice haven't scared the hardcore members yet. Through their actions and the way they show other writers they're taking no shorts, it's clear that the OBG is not to be stopped yet.
