North Sea jazz Festival 2001 - 13, 14 and 15 July, The Hague

26 Years ago Paul Acket, a hip jazz cat, came up with an idea to organize an indoor Jazz Festival as he got inspired and motivated by friends abroad. It became world famous, rebellious and a massive event. Which holds no equal. 26 years ago I was born and... well that's the only thing in common, but I'm working on it though. Last year if you missed it you are the biggest loser ever. The D'Angelo concert was the best ever seen by the Dutch audiance. As many witnesses express. Ain't nobody who can beat that show. One of the biggest losers is me. That it was even my own fault that I didn't got there makes me even the biggest loser of the biggest losers.

This year we have bill collectors at the door and the program of NSJF 2001 on the floor. "Yo, what you're going to do with your holiday?", -my colleagues asked me. "I go to North Sea Jazzzzz!" It's so damn expensive that I only can treat it as my summer holiday. And to be honest, it is a journey into music and exploration of HipHop roots. Not even to mention to find your way around, is an adventure itself. Too many times running into small stands with so many goodies and candies I need to have. But can't cause we ain't got the money.

From young people making boring lounge smooth Jazz till running grannies and grandpa's to get a seat in the front carrying their own picknick chair. Seeing some old cats coming on to stage and a moment later they blast you away with the dirtiest en rawest sound you ever witnessed. A Bootsy Collins hitting his bass only once and you're already thrown back one meter. Damn! It's the place where I saw The Roots perform for the first time. Everybody stood on the tables and chairs, the basement went bezerk. That same basement was set on fire last year by our own ART12's DTF when he performed with UJ And Friends. "It's nice if you can say you set THAT place on fire." says DTF with a big smile. Last year a small fire broke out in the basement when they just finished playing the last note. This year The Proove and 711 including ARE MC will represent. Ronald Snijders Bijlmer Jazz got our attention too. See what his sound is. Of course there are many more you need to check . We definitely want to see Marlena Shaw. Gangstarr sampled her classic number California Love in their own song 'Check The Technique' on the album Step In The Arena. Another unbelievable good song is Woman Of The Ghetto. Which you know from the sample "I'm the ho that had your baby" used in a dance hit.

So we don't know how you are trying to get it but we wish you all success. As ART12 we try to get press tickets so we can make a full report with too many photo's. To join you in remembering that good music and great fun. And in case you didn't go there, it's to show it straight into your face: looooooooser! Now we pray that we get the tickets, cause they're so damn too expensive for us. If we don't, we stand next to you, looking into the mirror and shout it to our selves. Don't let anybody tell you what it is. Cause about that Jazz thing, you have to discover it, explore it and feel it. Cause it's Jazzzz!

Hopefully we see you in The Hague!
