Big Daddy Kane
Another Victory

To make a long story short: it was the bomb! It was the best HipHop show of this year. The audience rapped every word along with the man, often louder than Kane on the soundsystem himself. The most beautiful thing: it was also flowing. The venue was not sold out, sadly. A lot of people didn't know the Kane was here. But this time the Bassline Backtrack Party had a special guest: Big Daddy Kane. They should've advertised it as the BDK concert. We had the chance to meet him and to do an interview. DTF sadly came to late for the interview, he just became an uncle: congratulations!!! Shanice: "Woow, another D?!" And there was only one press ticket and not two, like it should be. That was a shock. But we were able to hassle us another ticket.

So would he perform? After the wack ass no show of Freddie Foxxx, people were doubting if Kane would show up. Hanging around at Fat Beats before the interview Pete and I joked around. Imagining BDK: "Yeah I'm on Heathrow now, which underground line do I have to take?" When we saw the big man Atheem passing by alone we had some snaps ready. But hey, who is that relaxed guy who just passed me before we could snap any snaps? Of course a little bit older and a small belly. It was the smooth operator. We took the phone to spread the word across the city and country: "It's on." Other side: "Are you sure? How do you know?" "Well, I'm just standing right in front of him."

Inside the Paradiso you had many old cats walking around with a big smile. Ten years ago was the first and till now the last time he performed in The Netherlands. B-Boys and B-Girls from all the country skipped classes.

Took the train without paying, hiding under the seats (at that age we were still small enough). And took one month grounded. It could not matter, it was BDK.

Big Daddy entered the stage in a smooth broken white suit. Backed up by a DJ with only vinyl. No DAT! He dropped a medley of songs, warming it up, it became tropical hot. Nobody could stop us now. The audience went wild. Seldom the audience can understand the MC clearly. The sound was surprissingly descent, so with the skills of The Kane: good articulation, on point and focused.

Heads understood every new lyric immediately. Light a little bit better than normal, but still fucked up. The audience was anxious for what he would do. Often American artists are wasted by smoking weed or drinking too much. Daddy took care of his children, the stage is his home and the show was tight. Showing he could still rock the old songs raw as a smooth operator. It looked like a job that many failed to succeed but the job was done. With his new material he showed and proved the difference between old school cats and veterans. After all those years he just even improved himself. "Black like a motherfucker so don't take me lightly". That pure chocolate taste made everybody hysterical. Including the photo reporters Charlie-Touch, Nathalie, Host-O-Script Murth and the big man Atheem. Even the security could not keep their emotions invisible. Big Daddy Kane is still euhm, young! Gifted and black.

Interacting with the crowd and he had them on the move, from BDK: "At the count of three I want you all to slide to the left." It's fun to see a whole crowd moving from left to right. And vice versa. He keeps it moving. He took a brake for ten minutes and then came back for the last part. Dressed in fresh Nikes and jeans, he held it down continuing to deliver uncut, pure dope straight out the PJ's. Men and women were crying, thanking him for the good times. This evening was just his thing. A Big Daddy Kanes thing: just another victory.
