B BOY CONNECTIONS
MIXTAPE nr.5

Finally! DJ Edzon released the latest in the infamous B Boy Connections mixtape series: Number 5.
For the heads that don't know: Edzon's mixtapes are the shit! Dope rap from today and back then with a lot of funny shit inbetween. Only funny for Dutchies, because the funny shit is in Dutch. Word. And...finally we're putting this review on the Net: the tape's been out for four weeks already, so hurry to Fatbeats Amsterdam before it's sold out!

B Boy Connections 5 is fresh. It better be: he kept everybody waiting for a long time with something new. Of course you can hear Edzon spin the 0ne and Two's every thursday night on Kink FM, but his mixtapes are different.

Starting the a- side with a cut from City FM radio (from the time before they went commercial all the way) Ed hits you off with some mellow Bush Babies shit. After some other rap tracks it's zinloos geweld anno 1988 in Necessary by KRS One that stands out as a musical choice, followed by some up to date AG and EPMD tracks. Epmd uses Onyx's rapper Sticky Fingers as a sample: "I'm a B boy standing in my B boy stance..." Word.
Janet Jackson on the bedroom tip moaning in French? Ooooh Edzon... as a girl I like that shit. After this romantic interlude Edzon a.k.a. Barbapapa mixes a nice ragga beat lovely into OC (is it?) . And an Edzon tape wouldn't be an Edzon tape if it wasn't homeboy shoutout time during this beat. Versatile versatile, the a-side ends with a block of oldschool electro, even the entire I.O.U. by Freeze (a little too much of that, maybe?) But who am I to complain when all of a sudden Lee Towers-in-concert pops by?

Flippin' it to the b- side a sophisticated woman talks about her favourite music. "Rap muziek, dat vind ik toch zo verschrikkelijk, en dan keihard.....bonkende muziek met van die woedende negers, zoals je ze in de Bronx hoort..". Like KRS One, perfectly chosen with Break The Chain, (taken from the rare tape brought out together with a comic book under the same title on Marvel Comics in 1994.) After this Barbapapa treats us with some Mc Shan, Pharaoh Monch, the new Mark The 45 King and much more, you should check it for yourself and don't forget to listen to the answering machine.

This tape definitely needs to be followed up by a number 6... SOON!

Mickey one
(Another battle, Ed?)
