'In Doubt '99' featuring Postmen

We received the promo of the new E-Life single featuring Postmen. A 'duet' single with P and E is not a surprise out of the blue. They often work together, if not always. The track 'In Doubt '99' has a clear Postmen sound. It is good to hear E dropping a 12" which is really different than the first three releases. A lot less radio friendly. The problem with a white label (= no printed info on it) promo, is that there is no information printed on it. You have to find out yourself which side is the A-side etc. But it's not such a big problem. Take a marker and mark it yourself.

New kid on the block got shot

"John F Kennedy style"
, no not from the popular point of view image, but from the Oswald view, E-Life: "Blowing your skull out." E-Life portraits here some better rhyme schedules. On earlier 12"s he did broadcast some lyrics in a monotone rhyme schedule. "You wonder why? Don't worry, there will be more days to come", rhymes E-Life. The Rolarocka Shyrock takes care of the chorus line. The lyrics push it to 'masterpiece'. The beat takes it down to 'play', it's the same thing with the contents of the song. It starts strong but in the end it's down to braggin and boasting. Let see what the video will bring, cause E-Life's videos are always impressive, if TMF has the guts to broadcast it.

The Anonymous Mis kicks off with the lyrics which raise some questions. Mis: "I want to see black reporters/black radio to support us/black television/black people giving orders". An industry man on a visit at the editorial office made the remark: "His own mother is white." Pointing out that Mis makes remarkable remarks. Making the industry black or in other words multi-cultural, so the total power of the white/conservative industry over ‘black’ music will be broken is what a lot of peeps wants in the HipHop community. But not everybody is in the position to do something. These guys are. To get the point across they bring it straight into your face. Well HipHop was never meant to take a d-tour.

I want to see black.

Although we live in a multi-cultural society there is still a lot of work to do for our generation to build up this new society. Compared with other countries the Dutch media still are into stereotypical casting. At TMF there are only two black faces, only hosting two black music programs. Only the public broadcast unions are going a little bit into a more realistic representation of the society, which pays their salary and are their viewers. The commercial broadcast companies are still behind. Mis is one of the few rappers who keeps on mentioning Volvo. They do drive around in a red V40. Volvo is the first top car brand in The Netherlands to portrait successful black families as drivers of expensive top quality cars. Maybe that is the reason why they like Volvo?

Black people giving orders

Anonymous Mis' Postmen first single, 'Docs Documents' was released on CMC/Soul Relation. With his success he could have made CMC/Soul Relation a lot bigger and more successful black independent company. But instead the very successful debut album 'Documents' was released on 'Top Notch'. The label of Kees de Koning. There is no Dutch HipHop without him, according to some. And some say that there is still Dutch HipHop in spite of him. In an interview with ART12 after the release of 'Docs Documents' Mis was accusing De Koning of a lot of things that he did wrong as a white man holding the position as only national HipHop radio show host (Dutch Masters). The interview was never published on request of Social Life/Rim Shot's Lars, the crew manager. But you did not need ART12 to know what was going on. So, a lot of inside people did wonder what was up with his release on 'Top Notch'. And if it would be the case that De Koning would be thrown over board when he is not needed any more? Sadly, we never had the chance to interview the high talented Anonymous Mis again. "First you have to write more nice things", said Social Life Management. That answer on our interview request is one of the biggest running gags ever at the editorial office. Postmen and E-Life continues to deliver good music and good stuff to talk about with remarkable contradictions. E-Life will rock the boat if it makes the Top 40.
