Headliners

Tapes:
Profile/
The Residue

Reggy Lines: “I leave fingerprints because I can touch it.”

We received two tapes at the editorial office released by the Headliners from The Hague, The Netherlands. And immediately lost one of the tapes while moving. So for a couple of weeks I was checking the first tape: The Residue: The devil and his advocate with a cover that’s a nice gimmick on the movie The Devils Advocate. Syd Riko and Reggy Lines, both also Headliners crew, deliver this tape under the name: The Residue. And that is what it is, it is the residue. While the lyrics are always sharp with Reggy Lines the beats are messed up. Some how none of the beats have a rhythm track speed with the same melody speed. When the music sentence of the melody is finished the rhythm track music sentence is still half ways. With other words: it doesn’t feel all right.

So www.kosanostra.com helped me out with the lost tape by giving theirs. Finally the second tape played in mine beloved tape deck. Not very interested in how this tape would sound I pushed on ‘play’. … Wooooow! Ding-Dong. Jackpot! This one makes me say damn! Why is it on tape and not on a 12”!? Headliners headlines with the tape Profile.

The intro is already very nice. But in the first and tittle song: Profile, Reggy Lines flows like the Nile. Coming ruff rugged and raw. Showing Reggy Lines and Ryan 2 Times know what they’re doing. The beat comes in right. The melody, which sounds like a singing saw, is super fat. And the flow of Reggy is pumping, with the air he used coming out of the belly and not out of the chest. Which is one of the basic demands for a good flow. The song has a good chorus line where Reggy Lines flows in a ragga style. In one of the verses Reggy Lines come to your ear through a megaphone. Showing he can rock his lyrics in total different styles.

Blasted away by ‘Profile’ the next song drops in for the real blast. ‘Always Ready Never Done’ has a slamming rhythm track produced by Ryan 2 Times and Reggy. Reggy's flow pumping and aggressive. Dope sharp cuts by Ill Co. “Forget to tell ya/If there is no beat no more/ I tell ya A cappella”. As an MC ready to hit and as an artist never done. The Just-Ice sample says it all: Rock On. Reggy Lines: “I'm leaving finger prints because I can touch it.”

Those two tracks are the best of the nine-track tape Profile. The others songs are good. Reggy deserves recognition for his phat verses. Like he claims in the song: “Deserve phat verse recognition.” For more information about Headliners e-mail: tank33@wxs.nl

While searching for the also lost CD of PeeWee, North Side Stylaz, which I promised PeeWee to give it to Rowdy, I finally find... Yes, the tape Profile of the Headliners.
